Design

First Look:

At first, it looks almost same as its predecessor models, its aluminum body and same design pattern will give you the same feeling like you are using the older Corsair models, but there are some considerable changes in the latest Corsair K95 RGB.

The most visible change in the Corsair K95 RGB gaming keyboard is the narrow design with the elimination of some macro keys, a prior model of K95 (Vengeance) had 18 Macro keys that were way more than required and made the keyboard look fat and ugly.

Corsair K95 RGB Platinum comes with the one solid back plate made with high-quality aluminum which not just gives it a premium look but also assure about its long life.

One of the additional change is the fonts of the keyboard, Corsair has opted to follow wider fonts for better visibility (although new fonts have got a mixed feeling within the users)

Underside:

I loved what I saw at the underside of the keyboard, Corsair has tried to do everything to improve the user experience, to keep the unnecessary wires away K95 has molded “X” shaped arrangement that allows the cables to pass through under the keyboard instead of bothering the user.

Lightning:

You will be able to experience the superior level of lighting with new 19 zones light bar that runs along the top edge of the frame. Light effect of K95 platinum is enough to put impress anyone, it looks simply gorgeous.

Shortcuts:

There are plenty of keyboard manufacturers who are arming their high-end keyboards with the programmable macro keys but there is something distinct in K95 platinum. Macro keys provided by Corsair give you a better experience because of their different texture and sloped design; it enables the user to recognize macro keys efficiently. Media shortcut keys are aligned incredibly well with the design and come up incredibly handy in use

Performance

Switches:
Corsair is one of the only companies who is incorporating Cherry RGB switches in there models, none of the major competitors are using Cherry switches for their RGB models (I hope you are aware of the superior quality of Cherry switches).

Corsair has featured Cherry MX Speed switches in their latest version of their premium keyboard, and their switches are seriously going to play a big role in improving your performance. Till now I have been using the Blue switches because of my love for tactical feedback but when I tried these Speed switches for the first time I instantly had a new crush, my typing performance improved considerably and I was required to put lot less pressure than before, additionally, my wife is also pleased with these switches because of their low noise.

Body:
There is no doubt that Corsair has used high-quality material to make their keyboard look heavy duty. Being heavy duty doesn’t just improve its lifespan but also provides additional stability to the keyboard.

New hand-rest is proven to be incredibly comfortable and efficient in providing the much-required support to the wrist. 6 Macro keys come really handy and also satisfy the need of one-click-command.

Internal memory:

One additional feature that made the keyboard stand apart from rest of the keyboard is its 8 MB of internal memory that lets you save the keyboard profile within the keyboard, this features takes the keyboard to a new level of being autonomous and provides you the flexibility to carry the keyboard with you without worrying about the machine compatibility.

CUE (Corsair Utility Engine)

Corsair has developed its own CUE (Corsair Utility Engine) to handle the functionalities of all the peripherals through centralized command system but every Corsair used has struggled to deal with the CUE, although not very user-friendly they have upgraded themselves to be more straightforward and user-friendly.

This CUE gives you the ability to program the keyboard according to your requirements and setup macros, strings of text, etc. Lightning effects within the CUE are seamless and will give you the ability to choose from the built-in effects or choose to creatively create your own effects, you have got 16.7 million colors to play with.

If you are someone who doesn’t care about the rainbow effects, still I would suggest you go for the RGB version of this keyboard. Buying an RGB backlight gives you the ability to choose any color from 16.7 million color range. It will give you the flexibility to set the color according to your mood and ambiance.

Is It Worth Your Investment?

We have gone through each and everything that you should know before making a purchase. But it’s important to answer a few questions before you make a clear decision for the purchase of this keyboard.

Why Corsair?

Corsair has established themselves as a market leader in the keyboard industry through constant high performance and the reliability of products. You might find some mechanical keyboards at the much cheaper price but you will definitely not get the quality Corsair is providing.

Should you go for RGB or single color backlight?

A mechanical keyboard is a long-term investment and they are built to last long, possessing the ability to customize the color combinations of backlights will protect you from being bored of same color settings. Investment of additional $20USD will give you the ability to change the color combination of timely basis.

Is it worth investing?

I understand that Corsair K95 RGB Platinum of one of the most expensive keyboards available in the market but it comes with guaranteed high performance as well. The worth of anything can be figured out through one question, how long will it last? Cherry switches have a durability of 50 Million keystrokes that is totally insane and you can forget about investing in any keyboard for next 10 years. With the promise of 10 years of high performance of this keyboard, this is definitely a great buy for me.

Once you got yourself into the world of these high performing mechanical keyboards you are never going to use those membrane keyboards again, the sound of the keys will seem like music to ears, your typing performance is going experience considerable improvement and this keyboard will surely make you fall in love with the elegance and stability.
